In 2010 caods celebrated their 90th Anniversary and we certainly have come a long way since our inception in 1920.
caods first production, “H.M.S. Pinafore”, was staged at the Empire Theatre (long since demolished) in Springfield Road and was a great success receiving ecstatic reviews from the local press. Following that first production, the Society went on to stage musicals annually, the event soon becoming one of the highlights of the social calendar. Now we perform two musicals annually at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford and are still receiving amazing reviews for our shows.
In our anniversary year we performed “Fiddler On The Roof” and “Beauty and the Beast” to great acclaim – more details available on our Past Shows page.
We also organised a 90th Anniversary Concert – “Be Our Guest” – which, in traditional caods fashion, was a show not to miss.
As well as our public events we held a Family Fun Day and an Anniversary Dinner at Hylands House for members from across the years. Fun was had by all and we are looking forward to our 100th anniversary in 2020!
