Iolanthe
1933, Regent Theatre Chelmsford
This comic opera tells the tale of Iolanthe who has been banished from fairyland as she has married a mortal. Her shepherd son, Strephon, wishes to marry Phyllis, a Ward of the Chancery, but all the members of the House of Peers wish to marry her too. When Phyllis sees Strephon with a beautiful woman, actually his mother, she starts a confrontation between the peers and the fairies. Enjoy this classic Gilbert & Sullivan tale of satire, love and fairies.
