Orpheus in the Underworld
24 – 29 September 1979, Civic Theatre Chelmsford
In Ancient Greece Eurydice is conducting an affair with lowly shepherd Arisateus. When her husband Orpheus arrives they both with they could divorce but that public opinion will not allow it. But when Eurydice dies Arisatus reveals his true form – he is really Pluto, Lord of Hades – and takes her down to the underworld. Although Orpheus is pleased to be rid of her the public demand he gets her back. And so Orpheus’ adventures being in this operetta full of Greek gods and legend.
