At the final performance of The Desert Song, Mr. Sidney Taylor, President of caods, was giving a speech when he was taken ill and collapsed. Mr. Taylor remained on the stage after being caught by members of the cast before being taken to hospital following a minor heart attached. His condition was said to be improving but he sadly passed away a few weeks later.
Mr. Taylor was an honorary Freeman and seven times Mayor of Chelmsford. Mr. Taylor was the President of caods for many years, including during World War II. He was delighted that caods had reformed and was missed by all those who knew him.
