The Desert Song
21 – 26 April 1947, Regent Theatre Chelmsford
Based on the 1925 uprising in Morocco of the Riffs and the stories of Lawrence of Arabia this evocative tale follow the French General Birabeau who has been sent to root out and destroy the Riffs. The mysterious “Red Shadow” is the leader of the Riffs and Frenchman. Young Margot is desperately in love with Red Shadow and when he learns this he kidnaps and declares his love. With mistaken identity in the style of The Scarlet Pimpernel will love prevail in the desert?
Sadly caods President, Sidney Taylor, collapsed at the final performance after giving a speech. He was taken to hospital where he made good progress before passing away some weeks later.
